08.05.2012 The Norwegian railway network stretches from Kristiansand in the south to Bodø, above the Arctic Circle. It is even possible to travel by train to Narvik, which is connected to the Swedish railway network. The Norwegian railway network is more than 4,000 kilometres long, with a total of 775 tunnels and more than 3,000 bridges. The most famous routes are the Bergen line and the Flåm line, although most of the routes go through changing, scenic countryside, deep forests, mountains, and lakes and fjords.

02.12.2011 The British firm Atkins has now calculated where trains may stop en route, how long train journeys will last, and how frequently trains can depart. The calculations indicate that high-speed trains in Norway could also become available in rural areas. The four consultancy firms responsible for assessing the potential routes of the lines and identifying suitable sites for the construction of stations have now submitted their reports.

21.09.2011 During summer 2011, a crew of 250 men worked in three shifts, 24 hours per day replacing scrap iron with brand new rails, sleepers, points and contact lines from Brynsbakken to Skøyen. NOK 180 million has been spent on new railway infrastructure and 60% of the total renewal, which has a budget of NOK 1.6 billion, has been completed thus far.

07.06.2011 The Norwegian National Rail Administration and ROM Eiendom have now completed an extensive upgrading and modernisation of Åndalsnes station, the terminus of the Rauma Line, one of Norway's most well-known tourist lines. The new station facility will be ready for use just as the special tourist trains start their summer season.

11.05.2011 Between 26th June and 8th August 2011 extensive construction work will take place on the railway through Oslo. This will result in lines being closed all the way from Skøyen in the west to Bryn in the east and Grefsen in the north, including most of Oslo Central Station.

13.07.2010 Because of construction and maintenance work, a bus service is currently operating in place of all passenger trains on the Drammen line between Oslo S (central station) and Holmestrand/Gulskogen/Kongsberg. Train services will resume with the first train of the day on Monday 9 August.

27.11.2009 On 27th November 1909, a railway between Norway’s two largest cities was opened: the Bergen Line. At the same time, one of Europe’s most spectacular railways was opened to traffic. The Bergen Line remains one of the world’s most famous railways and as recently as spring, 2009, was voted one of the 20 best railway journeys in the world. The 100 year anniversary will be marked with several events throughout the year.
